HAPPY NEW YEAR Y’ALL!
Bridget here, the gal who has all the in’s when it comes to Vanna White (our VW bus in case you’re new around here), some may even call me her talent agent.I mean, I am the one who gets her all gigs around town!
I am sure all who have been following the renovation of Vanna White (and are her number 1 fans!) have been wondering…”How did she spend her holidays?” Well let me tell you, it’s been a busy holiday season for our sweet Vanna White, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.
In case you are reading this and don’t currently live in Boise, Idaho- I’ll let you in on a little secret….November through February gets cooolllddddd in Boise. I don’t mean a put on a light jacket & jeans cold, I mean get out your warmest winter parka, install automatic start on your car to let the heater warm up, & always wear 2 pairs of socks cold (so maybe I’m being a little dramatic, but I’m not far off). There was no way that we were going to leave our gal out in the cold like that. We brainstormed tons of ideas (some better than others) & after many coffee-fueled conversations, we finally landed on one.
This is pretty much how the conversation went in way less words:
Matt-“I have an idea…WE’RE GONNA PUT THE BUS IN THE MALL”
Bridget-“Whoah, wait, what?! How?!”
Matt-“We’re gonna drive it into the mall, obvi!” *****Okay, so Matt didn’t really use the word “Obvi”, but it just sounds cooler, so go with me on this*******
Drive a ’77 VW Bus through the mall?! You already knew that I was on board. Unfortunately, all my dreams of driving a bus through the mall were shattered when Vanna White decided it was time for the clutch to go out (that’s a whole other story) the day before we were going to put her in the mall. Can you blame her though? She has been a lot of places in her day and it’s not like she is a spring chicken anymore! So on November 21st, rather than driving her, we pushed her through the mall, parked her, and gave her a warm temporary home. CRAZY, right?!!
Every day at the mall is new & rarely do I see the same people twice, which is actually so fun for me. I am such a people person and could talk until the cows came home (thanks, grandma), so it has been such a cool experience getting to share our mission and educate people on what Speak Your Silence is all about! Over the last month and a half we have easily talked to over 5,000 (that’s a lot of people!!!). For the most part I talked with people who have never heard of Speak Your Silence, but once they heard all about what we did and why we existed, they were all in! They bought pins, stickers, mugs, tumblers, sunglasses, you name it!
Can I be honest? It’s really hard to put into words the feeling I have from meeting so many amazing people over these past months and hearing all the incredible stories from people who have been through sexual assault & abuse, but have come out victorious and stronger. It really is such an honor & an inspiration to listen to everyone who has shared their voice!!
I do want to say this:
To those who we met in the mall – thank you! Thank you for taking time out of your day to stop by the bus & hear our heart. We appreciate you more than you know!
To our wonderful & amazing supporters who knew us before the mall – thank you for continuing to be a part of Speak Your Silence. We really couldn’t do what we do without you!!
So stay tuned folks…Vanna White & I have some exciting things coming your way in 2019!!
